A diary of a week's outing in Peking written by Hope Danby who has good powers of observation, and who used those powers with keen discrimination. This fascinating little volume is a wonderful message to the unsurpassed beauties of Peking. It contains views such as "the Forbidden city", "the jade buddha", "the Lama temple", "the temple of Confucius", "Yuan Ming yuan", "the Summer Palace", "the drum tower", "a Chinese theatre", "the Great Wall", "the Ming tombs", "Marco Polo bridge", and others. This edition is limited to 300 copies. The illustrations in this book are all hand-coloured. Hope Danby, born in 1899, the author, also a famous collector of Chinese glass works of art. Her most famous publications include "the garden of perfect Brightness", "my boy Chang" and "the illustrations emperor". Gladys Mary Havers, the illustrator, was an artist who lived in China and was well known for her watercolors. L.C. Arlington was an American born in 1859, who had served in the Customs and Postal Administrations since his arrival in China in 1879.
