ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT FOR JOSEPH COX BRIDGE







Book Description
Oblong 4to, 17 x 22cm.
Bound in full brown leather, gilt initials and decoration to boards, some wear head / tail of spine & corners, slight loss of gilt (see photos). Binding solid.
Comprises of 4 pages (all shown) of thick cream card. First with a beautiful illuminated dedication to J.C. Bridge, Chester, July 1894, in lovely bright, unfaded condition. The following 3 pages are comprised of signatures within an illuminated border.
All edges Gilt.
The silk endpapers have a school library stamp and a bequest bookplate.
A lovely example.

Joseph Cox Bridge (1853-1929)
English Organist and Composer.
Born Rochester, Kent and studied under John Hopkins.
From 1871-1877 he was organist of Exeter College Oxford.
1877 Became organist of Chester Cathedral, there he revived the Chester Triennial Festival.
1908 appointed Professor of Music at Durham University.
