William Bankier (1870-1949), otherwise known as Apollo, the Scottish Hercules and the self-styled challenger to another strongman of the day Eugen Sandow. Hardback – publisher’s cloth with titles and decoration to spine and front board. pp. [1]-8, [4], 9-141, frontispiece + 14 b/w plates, plus 32pp publisher’s catalogue. 7.25 x 5 inches approx. (186mm x 129mm). Covers a little dusty and grubby, some marking; darkened to spine; light wear and rubbing to extremities; spine ends and corner tips turned-in. Endpapers very browned with offsetting, name in ink to front; inscription and address in pencil to recto of frontispiece; pages foxed and dusty thoughout with some occasional grubbiness. Publisher’s catalogue on a different paper stock and very tanned. Has a ‘mothball’ odour. Nonetheless, remains a reasonably nice copy – uncommon.
