How to Get Strong and How to Stay So

Book Description
First edition. Illustrated with eight in-text figures. A fine, bright copy; endpapers with small faults, especially a little old glue on rear pastedown, and shallow corner of ffep reattached with archival tape; a couple pages corner-creased.
Dealer Notes
Reported to have been the most sold book on physical culture / athletics in the 19th century, having been frequently reprinted, not only in the US, but also in Toronto and London. The author, a lawyer by profession, was a strong advocate of a healthy, active life. The ‘Contents’ pages give an idea of his philosophy and training ideals; the illustrations of the rowers whose bodies are “warped” and “imperfectly developed in Muscles not used in Rowing” says it all (see photos).
