It was first published in a different form in 1947, now in this edition with stylish and atmospheric illustrations by James Holland, O.B.E. Nicholas Monsarrat is the author of the successful novel of the Battle of the Atlantic, “The Cruel Sea”. 94 pages with numerous full page and smaller illustrations in blue black and white. One text page has a mark at lower edge, endpapers tanned, contents otherwise nice and fresh. 240 x 190 mm [approx 9 ½” x 7 ½”] purple-black boards with titles and vignette in white. Very good condition in edge worn pictorial dust wrapper. Plates engraved by The Half-Tone Engraving company, printed by The Shenval Press, London and Hertford. Cassell 1st edition thus 1952
