FIRST EDITION OF VOLUME THREE AND SECOND EDITION OF VOLUMES 1 AND 2.--- Three volumes. 4to. All 3 bound without the half titles, otherwise complete. Illustrated with 22 engraved maps and plates, four of these are large folding plates, including the general map of the West Indies which is on two large sheets. Some marginal foxing and a few scattered stains plus a few professional repairs to the folds of the large maps but a overall a very good copy in contemporary diced calf boards with expertly executed recent spines to match. Boards with elaborate gilt borders. Spines with raised bands, decorated with gilt piping The compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Original marbled endpapers have been stuck to the inside of the boards. All edges gilt. Unusually there is the neat previous female owners' name on the front blank endpapers of each volume. Some chipping to the leather on the boards but overall a very good set. ---- Sabin (21901) states that the second edition is the same as the first.
