Each vol. with half-title, and title-page in red and black, woodcut ornaments. Sporadic very faint toning, vol.III with dusty mark at head of p.1097, a little light foxing to vol.IV, vol.VI with sporadic toning from gathering 4Y on.Internally very clean overall. Publisher’s binding, half deep pink sheep, black gilt title labels, marbled boards, uncut, some pages unopened at head. Spines rubbed and faded, but a very good unsophisticated set.

“The labours of Drakenborch have entitled his edition to a superiority over every preceding one” (Dibdin). It also features on Dibdin’s list of the ‘editiones optimae’ of quarto variora. Drakenborch (1684-1748) was professor of History and Eloquence at Utrecht; his Livy was frequently used as a basis for later editions.
