Elaborately tooled period-style spine retaining original marbled boards and edges. Near fine copy in an attractive binding. Based on observations made by the author while serving as surgeon on board a whaling ship in 1817. O’Reilly provides extended accounts of conditions in the Arctic as well as a general account of the quest for the Northwest Passage. The attractive engravings depict scenes of Greenland, Uskee Natives, seal and whale hunting, polar bears and other mammals, birds, and Arctic weather phenomena. [AB 12852]
