Book Description

Large volume (19.8 x 13.1 inches, and 3.1 inches thick), containing 1,144 hand painted wall paper designs of different shapes and sizes, painted in gouache and watercolours, mounted onto 91 leaves. A handful are pen and ink drawings. Black buckram spine and corners and morocco grained cloth on boards. The book has a paper label to the front board with the words ' Livre 2. idees recherche - References. Ameublement + Mode.' written in black ink. The binding of the book is rubbed and worn, but the designs are still in very good condition and the colours are vibrant and strong. A fascinating survivor which appears to be a collection of designs from the 1920's to the 1940's, based on the various styles used. An interesting mixture of traditional and contemporary designs.
