Constance Gordon Cumming’s first travel book relates her impressions of a tour of the Scottish Hebrides, and her subsequent 1868-9 travels in India. The latter account fills the second volume, and Cumming describes her visit to Simla, and travels in Himachal Pradesh, with views of the snow mountains that flank the region. The book was seen through the press by another famous traveller, Isabella Bird, Cumming having already set off before publication on a voyage to Fiji.
