Orig. blind patterned cloth. Spine faded, small ink spot. Some scattered foxing; small piece torn from corner of preface. From the library of Prof. Alexander James Edward Cave, (1900-2001), with his signature in pencil. Cave was a leading British anatomist, Professor of Anatomy, St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, 1946-1967 and President of the Linnean Society 1970-1973. Cave had a wide range of interests, including the study of catholic relics. Letter inserted in which Joseph Bamber, catholic priest at Dodding Green, Skelsmergh, Kendal 1947-1983, presents this copy to Cave.
Reprint. First published 1910. Includes chapters on the Fitzherbert family, Stonor Park, Markenfield Hall, Ripley Castle, Wardley Hall, Woodcock Hall. Illustrated with line drawings by Joseph Pike.
