First edition, [part I], 4to (290 x 230 mm), xvi, 59, [5]pp., with errata slip pasted onto verso of final leaf, 31 hand-coloured plates drawn and engraved by Bolton, cont. calf, rubbed, neatly rebacked, spine with five raised bands, ruled in gilt with blind tolling, red morocco title label.

James Bolton (bap. 1735, d. 1799), one of the foremost eighteenth-century mycologists. He was a self-taught naturalist of humble origins and he drew and etched all the illustrations in this work. A second part was published at Halifax five years later.
