Regretfully, due to Covid-19, we have decided to cancel all fairs from May to August. Keep checking our website for updates. Unfortunately, our York National Book Fair in September has been cancelled and our rescheduled Oxford Book Fair for October has also been cancelled.
OUR JUNE ONLINE FAIR IS STILL OPEN FOR BUSINESS.

Easy Guide to the Game of Chess with a number of Curious and Remarkable Situations, adapted for the instruction of the tyro and the amusement of the adept, by Charles Check, Printed for W. Simpkin & R. Marshall 1818. 82 pages. Drab paper covers, front cover restored and matched [rather brilliantly!] to original rear cover, mild spotting and creasing. Chessboard and pieces frontispiece. Double title page, first with some offsetting from frontispiece and touches of spotting with engraved decorations. Second title page. 3 pp preface, 2pp contents, mention of Von Kempelen's automaton pp 16/17. Very occasional mild spotting else a very decent example of this very scarce chess title.
