In black blind stamped boards, with gilt illustration of ship on front board , and gilt titles to spine. Boards are slightly rubbed. An important historical account of the post-war voyages of the USS Congress. Frontispiece portrait of Commodore Stockton, plus four colour plates. Howes' C624 makes this the first issue as it has printed endpapers (advertisements); these are blank endpapers in later issues. Small previous owner name and date to front. Complete with map on page 12. Foxing throughout.
