Dealer Notes
First edition. The illustrated catalogue of ‘the first major exhibition of [Rossetti’s] work for 90 years to be seen in the metropolis’ (p. 6), which comprised nearly four hundred items – including paintings, drawings, watercolours, book illustrations, and bookbindings designed by Rossetti – prefaced by a foreword by W.T. Monnington, an introductory essay by John Gere, and a chronology. The exhibition committee of Peter Cannon-Brookes, Jenny Genower, John Gere, Alastair Grieve, Philip James, Richard Ormond, and Virginia Surtees arranged the exhibition thematically rather than chronologically, in order to explore the many different aspects of Rossetti’s life and creative work in a more informative manner than a simple timeline would permit.
