Dealer Notes
The Napoleonic law code for the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, translated into Italian from the penal code of the French Empire. It is issued in the name of Gioacchino Napoleone, or Joachim Napoléone Murat (1767-1805), flamboyant Marshall of France and brother in law of Napoleon Bonaparte, who made him King of Naples in 1808. (although proclaimed King of the Two Sicilies, Murat controlled only the mainland and not the island.) Following his defeat in battle and an unsuccessful uprising in Calabria, Murat was executed by firing squad in 1815, by order of the incoming Bourbon King of Naples, Ferdinand IV, who re-established the old regime following the French interlude. A scarce title; WorldCat lists copies of the first, 1812, edition in two US law libraries, Harvard and Washington D.C. and in Berlin and Arco, Italy for the 1813 version.
