Book Description
A scarce Chromolitho'd childrens book by the second of the10 children of the Reverend Alfred Gatty, Vicar of Ecclesfield in Yorkshire, and Margaret Gatty, herself a children's author, with a loosely inserted autograph letter signed by her father dated 13 Nov 1873 Ecclesfield. Quarto [9¼X7¼"] original glazed boards and yellow coated endpapers with an inscription to "Mabel Ursula Hey from her darling father" Roger Lancelyn Green called her books " The first outstanding child-novels in English literature" Her story The Brownies gave Baden-Powell the idea and name for the junior level of the Girl Guides. A clean sound copy but with signs of restoration
