Autograph postcard of Clara Schumann and letter from her daughter Eugenie in a copy of Clara's biography
Schumann (Clara, 1819-1896) autograph postcard, and also a letter from her daughter, Eugenie in this two volume memoir of her mother's life. H. Hadow. 2 volumes, 1st edition, London & Leipzig, 1913, blue cloth, large octavo. Signed presentation inscription from Eugenie Schumann [daughter of Clara] to Elizabeth Torrans Johnson dated March 1913 at foot of title to volume 1. In addition, an autograph letter signed from Eugenie to Elizabeth, Manchester, 8 March 1913, pasted to front free endpaper, saying that she is leaving England for good, 2 pp. with integral blank. Also an autograph postcard signed from Clara Schumann, 'Cl. Schumann' to Miss Johnson, postmarked Frankfurt, 1893, in German, arranging a time to meet, a little spotting, address side previously stuck down and now with adhesive and paper remains, placed in an envelope pasted to front pastedown of volume 2. Ownership signature of Diana Guthrie dated 1936 to front free endpaper of volume 2, plus some magazine and news cuttings pasted in, also pen and pencil notes by Guthrie at front and rear of each volume, original cloth, spines mildly faded and one with a small abraded patch, two handsome volumes now in protective acetate sleeves.
