Book Description
c. 1900. Original vintage photographic print of a hand, 205 x 155 mm. Famously, Wilhelm Roentgen took the very first x-ray of his wife’s hand, complete with rings, in 1895. Whilst we cannot claim that this x-ray is by Roentgen, it seems to be an early example of the practice, possibly from an “X-ray slot machine” that let customers see the bones in their hands. It was fashionable at this time to have x-rays done and The Czarina of Russia, Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany and the British Prime Minister all indulged the craze.
