Dealer Notes
A good copy of Toy’s first travel book and journey in her famous series, resulting from a bet in a pub in London. Commencing from Gibraltar, she travelled unaided through Morocco, Algeria, Libiya, Egypt, Palestine (via Cyprus by ferry), Jordan, Syria & finishing in Mosul in northern Iraq.
Toy (1908 - 2001) was a pioneer of this type of unaided, long-distance travel. She subsequently became one of the first Westerners to visit Saudi Arabia and completed an unaided round-the-world trip. She was recognised for her achievements, becoming a fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and winning the Rover award for travel, being truly in love with her first defender named Pollyanna.
Scarce. Libraryhub located ten holdings nationally. It is also noticeably uncommon in the market, especially with the dust jacket.
