A collection 53 of photographic cartes de visites portraits featuring the work of some early Scottish photographic studios. The portraits are largely of prominent academic figures annotated in ink beneath the molunts. Photographers include, valentine of Dundee, Rodger of St Andrews (the majority), Downie of St Andrews, Kerr and Robertson, Glasgow, John Moffat, Edinburgh, McKenzie of Paisley, Morris of Gourock, Hamilton of Greenock, Fergus of Greenock, Stuart, Glasgow, Brown of Irvine, Bowman of Glasgow, Shearer of Aberdeen; Douglas of Glasgow, Stephen of Glasgow, Wanless, Dundee, Annan of Glasgow, Paton of Gourock, Turnbull of Glasgow.
There are 14 cdv's by Thomas Rodger and named sitters include; Professor Mitchell (Oriental Languages), Professor Brown (Biblical criticism and Theology) , Dr Cook, Professor Buist (Ecclesistical history), Professor Fisher (Natural History), Professor Day (anatomy), Professor Alexander (Greek), Professor Macdonald (Civil History and Natural History), Reverend Park, The Rev.
