Printed for Private Circulation Only. [Crompton & Ritchie.] 1848. First Edition, small 4to, [ii],249pp., engraved frontispiece of Kersall Cell. Contemporary mottled calf binding, spine goldtooled. Restored. Exlibris of the Rev. John Taylor Allen, Stradbrook Suffolk on the inside front cover and a newspaper clipping on the funeral of Miss Atherton of Kersall Cell (died 1870) on the first flyleaf. Inside front cover and recto of first flyleaf covered with one large note (dated 1879) containing information on the library.
Dealer Notes
Rare catalogue, prepared by Rodd, of the library of John Byrom (1692-1763), poet and inventor of a novel shorthand system. His library remained in the possession of his descendants at his house at Broughton near Manchester and included many works by his friends Bishop Hoadly, Richard Bentley, John Wesley, Anthony Collins and William Law.
