HISTORY OF THE PENINSULAR WAR by ROBERT SOUTHEY in Six Volumes 1828 with three sides of pages from Southey’s Original Manuscript for the book
published in London by John Murray in 1828 this is a handsomely bound early edition of Robert Southey’s “History of the Peninsular War” in six volumes, bound in nice old half leather bindings, this set was originally the property of a Rev. William H. King with his armorial crested heraldic bookplates, tipped in at the rear of volume six are two pages of Southey’s original manuscript for the book written on three sides in the margin of the first leaf is written ”part of Southey’s original M.S. given to Rev. James White, brother of Henry Kirke White, and by him to W. H. King” the books are 8.5 inches tall approx., not illustrated, the leather bindings have some general rubbing wear with some surface scrapes to the leather on some corners and spine edge, general edge rubbing, else bindings are in good solid condition, internally heavy noticeable foxing to opening and closing few pages of each volume, a few foxing and browning marks within else main body of contents generally nice and clean A HANDSOMELY BOUND SET OF SOUTHEY’S HISTORY OF THE PENINSULAR WAR WITH SOME OF THE AUTHOR’S ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT PAGES GIVEN TO THE BOOKS ORIGINAL OWNER
