CURSUS MATHEMATICUS Or A COMPLETE COURSE OF THE MATHEMATICKS in Five Volumes Vol. I. Contains a short treatise of algebra, and the Elements of Euclid. Vol. II. Arithmetic and trigonometry, with correct tables of logarithms, sines and tangents. Vol. III. Geometry and fortification. Vol. IV. Mechanics, and perspective. Vol. V. Geography and dialling. The whole illustrated with near 200 copper plates. Written in French by Monsieur Ozanam, Professor of the mathematicks at Paris. Now done into English, with additions and corrections by several hands.
Published in London, printed for John Nicholson at the Queens Arms in Little Britain, and Sold by John Morphew near Stationers Hal this is the First English Edition of Ozanam’s highly regarded treatise on Mathematics, bound in old contemporary Cambridge style full leather bindings, internally well-illustrated with nearly two hundred engraved plates, a couple are folding, volume one is almost entirely devoted to Euclid's Elements. The other books cover: trigonometry, calculating tables, geometry, geodesy, fortification, mechanics, compound engines, hydrostatics, perspective, geography and dialling, etc| just under 8 inches tall, each section in each book has its own separate pagination. The bindings have some general noticeable signs of wear, wear at spine ends and corners, some cracking to joints, rear board of volumes one & four held in place by binding cords only, some surface scuffs, with a few chips to the leather. internally endpapers browned, some occasional browning within, some page and corner creasing, occasional cockling of paper else contents in good general condition A NICE EXAMPLE OF THE ENGLISH FIRST EDITION IN ATTRACTIVE CONTEMPORARY FULL LEATHER BINDINGS
