He is generally considered to be one of the greatest English composers no later native-born English composer approached his fame until Edward Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, William Walton and Benjamin Britten in the 20th century. the books are bound in old Cambridge style leather bindings titled with owners name to upper boards, volume one 12 inches tall, volume two slightly taller, 286 pages to volume 1 and 204 pages to volume 2 prefatory pages of text in both volumes, but most of the content is Music this the second edition was considerably enlarged with extra tunes illustrated with engraved frontispieces, title pages printed in black and red both books bear the ownership name “John Bingham” to title pages, with an inscription below the frontispiece in volume one reading “The Gift of Sir Charles Bingham Bart. To his much beloved Friend Henry Ormsby Esquire”. The bindings have general signs of wear, cracking to all joints and front board is detached from volume two and the opening few pages from that volume are loose from the text block, heavy browning and creasing to endpapers, noticeable browning and foxing to opening pages of both volumes, with some foxing and browning marks within, though the majority of the contents are in nice condition BINDINGS IN NEED OF SOME ATTENTION ELSE A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE SECOND EDITION WITH MANY ADDITIONAL PIECES FROM THIS IMPORTANT EARLY ENGLISH COMPOSER
