BLAKE, William

The Writings of William Blake Edited in three volumes by Geoffrey Keynes

Published: London: Nonesuch Press [Printed by the Chiswick Press]

Date: 1925

3 vols. very tall 8vo. xviii, [2], 364, [1]; viii, 398, [1]; viii, 430, [1] pp., frontispiece portrait, 58 plates, illustrations in text, original parchment backed marbled boards, spine gilt lettered. Limited to 1500 copies printed on Vidalon handmade paper.

Armorial bookplate of Stanley William Sykes.

These volumes have been preserved in glassine paper wrappers (now torn at the spine) so that they have not suffered from the usual shelf wear at the bottom edges and corners, and likewise the spines have remained more or less clean and fresh as issued. An important edition in which Milton is, for the first time, printed in full and Vala is printed in a text prepared from the original manuscript. "I believe this to rank with the Shakespeare as the most useful and most generally creditable of Nonesuch publications" [Meynell in Nonesuch Century].
