The blue cloth cover designed by Blanche MacManus shows the county seal flanked by the seals of its two major ports, Portsmouth and Southampton, with a blind stamped monogram of Jane Austen’s initials and her family crest of the stag. On the back board is a blind stamped vignette of Austen’s burial place, Winchester Cathedral and gilt stamped titles and the publishers device to the spine. Each book has different green and white map endpapers also by Blanche MacManus, uncut edges and a title page with two colour image of Austen after Zoffany. An unusual, scarce set.
