The Sportsman's Dictionary or the Country Gentleman's Companion in all Rural Recreations published by Hitch and Davis, London 1735. A 1st edition. Volume I. In a recent half leather binding size 20 by 12 cm. This first volume ends at the letter M with madness in dogs and tips on managing a horse! Contents include both fishing and angling, dogs, horses and hunting. With 13 (of 15) charming copper engravings which include scenes of fishing and the trapping of hares and foxes. The title page has been relaid, the endpapers replaced, and the first plate that served as a frontispiece is missing. Some occasional minor staining and a bit of a nibble to the very bottom edge beneath the margin of the first 30 pages. Good condition with these qualifications.
