The Modern County Atlas of England and Wales published by Johnston, Edinburgh 1889. The Modern County Atlas of England and Wales comprised in fifty seven maps, all on one scale arranged alphabetically with complete index. In a quarter leather binding with boards 29 by 20 cm. The front board and leather spine have the title gold-stamped; the spine also has raised bands and gold decoration. All edges gilt. About half of the maps are double-page and thus 38 by 28 cm. These include a street map of central London on a scale of two inches to the mile. The single-page include one of the Channel Islands. No text to reverse of the maps. Some occasional foxing, mainly to the title page and endpapers. Corners of the boards are rubbed and the front hinge is showing early signs of weakness, but overall the atlas is in Good condition.
