Date: 1904

Undated, 1904 (1st ed. thus). 8vo., pp.310. Red cloth binding with gilt decoration and title; t.e.g; fore- and bottom-edges untrimmed. Jessie King studied at the Glasgow School of Art. Her work, in the Art Nouveau style, is characterized by the influences of Celtic imagery and the work of William Morris himself. This book has beautiful b/w illustrations throughout, including numerous head- and tailpieces and 24 full-page plates. The Art Nouveau binding, in gilt-decorated red cloth, was designed by King and has a pictorial gilt-stamped design of Guenevere on the front and another smaller gilt-stamped design on the back. Board corners bumped. On the spine: cloth is faded, gilt a little dulled, ends have turned in, a few marks and a small hole at one edge. On the back board: top edge faded, cloth has wrinkled. A neatly inked number (reads 216) and a previous owners name is pencilled on the front free endpaper. There is some light foxing to opening and closing couple of leaves and page edges. The pages themselves are clean and tight.
