First edition, first printing. Inscribed presentation copy from the author to Edward and Helen Thomas. Publisher’s original blue paper covered boards with titles in black to the upper and lower edge of the upper board, the vellum spine with titles in gilt. Top edge gilt. A very good copy, the binding a little rubbed and marked at the extremities, the contents with some offsetting to the prelims and tanning to the text block otherwise clean throughout. Scarce.

Helen and Edward Thomas (gift from the author).

Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper in black ink “To Helen and Edward Thomas, / from their friend / Gordon Bottomley. / Well Knowe House, Cartmel. / Oct. 15th 1902”. An outstanding association copy marking the beginning of an important and well documented friendship between the two writers. The author’s first play. 500 copies printed of which only 200 were bound, the remainder assumed pulped or destroyed.
