The Countryside Twenty-five Miles Round London planned from a Scale of One Mile to an Inch by W Faden, Geographer to the King 1789. Published by Faden, London 1789. On folding linen in 32 sections, size 127 by 103 cm. Beneath the map is this text: “The scale around the map is divided into Statute Miles East and West from the Meridian of London, and the North and South from the Parallel of the same place which is in Lat. 51.30. The Turnpike Roads are all laid down from an actual Measurement with a Perambulator”. The map covers an area from Tring in the north-west across to Great Waltham in the north-east and from Guildford across to Yalding in the south. A very detailed map. Some hand-colouring. The heights are shown by hachuring. Some repairs to folds at the reverse with archival standard clear tape. The edges are subject to the occasional nick at the folds but the map is complete and in Good condition, and appears ideal for framing.
