Manuscript British Railway Station Reference Book 1904 (1904)

Railway Stations of the British Isles at a Glance

Published: Unpublished manuscript

Date: 1904

Railway Stations of the British Isles at a Glance: a manuscript reference work in three volumes by W H Green, London 1904. In stiff marbled boards, each book size eight by six and a half inches. Approximately 200 pages of hand-written text to each, thus around 600 pp. in total. Green's book was the result of two years of work during which he collected information on every station in Britain, its location, the companies whose lines ran through it, and the distance of each station from London. He then produced a reference work akin to those of Airey and the Railway Clearing House- a directory of stations in alphabetical order with the facts listed in columns beside each one. He included stations opened during the period of his research by entering them in separate pages after each letter in his index. He also colour-coded stations that were served by more than one line. A labour of love in VG condition.
