Signed by a pioneering emigrant to Australia Past & Present and Men of the Times, by Captain W[illiam] Jackson Barry, veteran pioneer of Australasia, pub. Wellington N.Z. McKee & Gamble, Printers and Publishers, 1897. 228 pp with an appendix [Biographical Portraits of men I Have Met] taking the page count to 253. Photographic illustrations in the appendix. Red cloth, few marks/stains, the book slightly cocked, corners little furred, spine darkened, hinges slightly tender, but still holding. Small stain to bottom RH bottom corner of first few pages. Barry [1819-1907] was born in Cambridgeshire but moved to Australia in 1829. His lively memoirs cover Australia's profound transformation and nation building in the nineteenth century. Signed to frontispiece to 'The author's compliments to G[eorge] Gee esq. W. Jackson Barry, aged 80 years' A scarce book rarely found signed.
