Numo Cento Vedute di Roma e sue Vicinanze

Published: Roma: Presso Tommaso Cuccioni Negoziante di Stampe

Date: c.1830

small oblong folio (150 x 195mm.) engraved title plus 102 engraved plates, contemporary half calf with marbled sides, smooth spine decorated and lettered in gilt, Munro (see below) has noted in neat pen (usually at the bottom right-hand corner, just inside the plate mark, but outside of the view proper) the date on which he apparently visited the places shown in the views, front joint just starting, else generally a fresh sound copy. Rare.

Endpaper very decoratively inscribed "A. H. Monro,/ 92 Highlanders/ Rome, 12th June 1838".

OCLC locates a single copy only, in the Getty Institute. Most of the engravings are unsigned but some bear the names of Achille Parboni or of Tommaso Cuccioni as the engraver. Monro appears to have spent about six days sightseeing in Rome.
