The new Chatto & Windus edition 'with 125 illustrations'. With signed letter from Besant to J. Robertson Esq. on Adam & Charles Black-headed stationary, dated Mar. 3rd 1899. Demy 8vo, pp. xvi, 343, (1), 32 Chatto catalogue + b/w frontis (with tissue guard) and illustrations. Blue cloth, gilt and red-stamped lettering to spine, blind-patterned boards. Black endpapers. All edges untrimmed, some pages uncut. Spine slightly cocked, rubbed. Bumped and worn spine ends and corners. Tanned edges. Spine cracked at pp. 256-7, but binding still holding firm. Faint POI to ffep, occasional foxing. Else, clean. Signed letter in plastic and paper sheath pasted to front pastedown. Adam & Charles Black were Besant's publishers; the typed letter declines an invitation to join an Association 'for the simple reason that I am not a Conservative.'.
