Theatrical almanac, 33 copies printed ([ 1824 ])

[Léon Tricotln]

L'Abeille des théâtres, chansonnier dédié aux dames

Published: Paris: Lefuel, [1824]

Date: [ 1824 ]

12mo, 215 p., 7 hand-coloured plates, original green moiré silk, elaborate gilt border, in fine condition, in matching étui, very slightly faded

Note
Counts as an almanac, since there is a calendar for 1824, but rather a collection of vaudeville songs (some perhaps not otherwise printed?) issued in a slender 33 copies as an instrument of patronage. The only contemporary reference I have found is in Physiologie du théâtre: par un journaliste [Louis Couailhac], Paris 1841, describing an evening party (p.17): "Plus loin, M. Léon Tricotln, rédacteur en chef de I’Aheille des Théâtres, feuille qui se tire à trente-trois exemplaires, donne d'un air important des .conseils saugrenus à trois ou quatre acteurs comparses qui ont la bonté de l'écouter, et leur promet de faire mention d'eux dans le prochain numéro de son journal. Ce prochain numéro paraît rarement." This edition is in BnF and 2 libraries in Germany, an 1825 edition )perhaps the only other to appear?) at Harvard and Illinois. The last auction record was at the Anderson galleries in 1909.
