Contemporary prize binding of full blue calf by Relfe Brothers of London, brown morocco label, raised bands, spine tooled in gilt, sides and edges with gilt foliate roll tool border, gilt stamp of Enfield Endowed Grammar School to upper board. Marbled edges and endpapers, inner blind floral roll tool borders. Decorative head- and tail-pieces and initials. Extremities and joints rubbed, corners bruised, some scuffing to boards. 1899 prize label to front pastedown. Very occasional foxing, else, clean and tight; plates and maps bright. A pleasing copy. Heroes of the nations, no.17.
