A COLLECTION OF EARLY ISSUES OF THE IN-HOUSE MAGAZINE OF WATNEY'S THE BREWER (1919 - 1930)

Watneys Brewery (Watney Combe Reid & Co., Limited):

Hand in Hand - a broken run of 55 issues from Volume 1 No. 2 to Volume 12 No. 2

Published: Carlton Publicity Ltd for Watney Combe Reid & Co Ltd., London,

Date: 1919 - 1930

55 issues from December 1919 to December 1930, some duplication, around 20pp each issue with illustrations, adverts etc., plates & fixture lists occasionally loosely inserted, paper covers. In generally good condition, the covers a little marked, dusty and worn, all with rusty staples. A recent attic find, this is the in-house magazine of Watney's, the London based brewers with breweries in Pimlico and Mortlake and, from 1924, in Isleworth. Whilst a good deal of the contents are concerned with staff, sports etc news, there is much of more general interest, including a somewhat political Editorial column & news from around the Watney estate - articles on the Farnham Maltings, prohibition etc are also noted. At its peak in the 1930s, Watneys was one of Britain’s largest companies.
