Three of the volumes are second editions, published in 1929 (Period 2, Vol. 1. ; Period 3, Vol. 1. ; Period 5, Vol. 1.). Fully illustrated throughout with thousands of black and white photographic plates. Publishers blue cloth bindings, lettered in gilt to spines and front boards. Marbled endpapers. Some fading to the edges of the cloth on three volumes, particularly the top and bottom of the spines, but overall a very good bright set, the cloth bindings clean and the gilt lettering very bright. The last two volumes have their original chipped torn and repaired dustwrappers present.

Henry Avray Tipping (1855-1933) was an architectural historian, garden designer and perhaps is best known as an Architectural Editor of Country Life between 1907 and 1910 and then again from 1916 until 1930. This monumental set is an important record of English architecture and interiors from 1066 up to 1820.
