Down with Skool, 1953

Published: Max Parrish, London

Date: 1953

Black boards with gilt design to spine and upper board and gilt lettering to the spine, decorative endpapers and fully illustrated throughout with black & white drawings by Ronald Searle. A very good copy with light marks to boards and dulling to the gilt on the spine. Internally clean and crisp with a touch of spotting to the fore edge, also affecting the very edge of a couple of pages. Unclipped dust jacket, still quite bright, with light spotting and rubbing to panels, slight darkening to the spine and rubbing to edges but overall in very good condition. 106pp. 'Molesworth (of St Custard's) whose Diary in 'Punch' produced an enormous fan-mail, reveals in masterly prose (and wicked spelling) the full lowdown on skools, swots, snekes, etc. And like all great diarists, Molesworth most of all reveals himself: the tough cynic of the atomic age, the expert at not learning, the slayer of sentiment who sees right through the masters and is expert at handling them; the ignorant, wordly wise, exasperating, lovable, classic bad boy of today'.
