Complete set of ten Ordnance Survey maps of the Western Front 1916-18, published by the OS, Southampton 1919. On folding linen. Sizes vary from 85 by 70 cm. (the majority) to 65 by 43 cm. Scales vary from one inch to four miles to 1:600,000. Subjects are the Somme battle, 1916; the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line winter 1916-17; the battle of Arras, Spring 1917; the third battle of Ypres, 1917; the battle of Cambrai, November & December 1917; the German Offensive on the Somme, March 1918; the German Offensive on the Lys, April 1918; the final British Offensive, August-November 1918; the Allied advance 1918; and the British Advance to the Rhine. All maps in colour. Maps are similar in style and attention to detail to the larger scale British OS series. Keys give additional details of the trenches and landscape, plus information on the advancing and retreating armies. Condition Good to Fine, with one map strengthened to reverse with linen tape. In new replacement slipcase. An unusual and rare series.
