Benoit Constant Coquelin 1841 – 1909 1 page bifolium autograph letter on stationary of Le Grand Hotel Bruxelles. Postmark identifies date as 24th May 1901. Chere Madame, [address on envelope identifies the recipient as ‘Marie Dickens’. Pardonnez moi de vous repondre si tard [He goes on to say that was only yesterday that he was able to have a response from Sarah [Sarah Bernhardt, I presume]. He says that he will perform a monologue at her [i.e. Madame Dickens’] concert at the Westminster Hospital and that he will see ‘Roche’ at the Walsingham House Hotel on the 3rd June to discuss what she wishes. A good letter from this giant of the French nineteenth century stage who appears briefly on film as Cyrano, a role he made famous. Good condition with envelope.
