FIRST EDITION. 8vo. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author two days after her birthday: “To Lenore McConnell, - wishing you a great future. Ayn Rand. February 4, 1959.”. Original green cloth with gilt lettering to spine and monogram on front board. Top edge blue. Beige endpapers. Front hinge starting otherwise a near fine copy in a very good dustwrapper with a few small chips to the edges but overall a bright and clean copy. Housed in a red quarter morocco solander box by The Chelsea Bindery of London. Five raised bands on the spine. Gilt piping and lettering. First printing of Rand’s fourth novel. The philosophical movement launched by Rand with Atlas Shrugged had a profound impact on American culture, which continues to this day, with the novel named by a 1991 Library of Congress survey as the most influential book for a majority of Americans, second only to the Bible.
