Complete in Twelve parts, here bound in six Published in London by John Russell Smith in the years 1854-60 in 12 parts, this is the First Edition of Eyton's "Antiquities of Shropshire" limited to only 300 copies, illustrated with 135 wood engraved plates and 15 folding maps, 8vo bound in old half leather bindings with marbled paper covered boards, and marbled endpapers, with very nice later replacement leather spines, top edges gilded, this is a highly regarded and important Scholarly work. The Historian Chester Waters is quoted as saying that Eyton "Stands alone in the Literary world as a County Historian". This set originally came from the Library of The Duke of Bedford, with his bookplate in the opening volume. The bindings have some wear to the leather corners which have been professionally restored, internally some foxing to endpapers, occasional marks to a few pages, else generally contents nice and clean. A nicely presented Set of this Rare and sought after work,
