8vo, pp.vii, [I], 391, [1], 20 tinted or coloured lithographic plates, 6 plain lithographic plates, 3 coloured maps, folding map to rear, 47 textual figures, marbled edges, rebound retaining original calf spine decorated gilt in compartments, wine label, orange cloth.

The Preface is dated Fortress of Alahabad, October 3, 1857, as usual, and the final page has the imprint London:- Printed by George Barclay, Castle Street, Leicester Square but the title-page implies that Smith Elder must have sent the sheets of the London edition to Calcutta after arriving at some arrangement with Thacker, Spink, & Co.
