This a delightful Victorian Manuscript work, dedicated at the front of the book to a “Annie Wise, The Guide, Philosopher & Friend of Many Years. This Book of Sketches is Presented by the Artist as a Memorial of their Long Friendship.” And signed M.S.P. A Work of Humorous Cartoons, the book is divided into two parts, each with its colour painted title page, the first titled “Odds & Ends Collected and Arranged by an Improvable M.P.” and the second work “1837-1887 A Jubilee Journey, or the Adventures of The Hon. Miss Sapp Green by Gabriel Gammon”. The first work is a series of individual and grouped cartoons, including a small group on farming, and one cartoon is titled “The Evolution of Rabbit Pie by Professor Darwin”, with a bust of a Monkey’s head, after it shows a series of Cats morphing into a Pie, making fun from Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, the second book is about a female character called Miss Sapp Green. With a final page of a painting of an artist’s easel and a cat in a basket, the date 1890 is painted onto the basket which is probably the date of the book. album measures 10.5 inches by 8 inches approx., bound in an old half leather binding with cloth covered boards, both covers are detached and the spine panel is missing, internally there is some edge and corner chipping to a number of pages else contents in good general condition, the album runs to thirty used thick card pages.
