Published in 1884 this is the Very Scarce First edition of this classic Victorian handbook to the fossils of Shropshire with notes on the Geology Shropshire is famous for its Geology and large diverse Fossil Fauna, Roderick Murchison based much of his work from studies within the County, being the type localities for the Classic Wenlock fauna, also The Ludlow and Caradoc Series all taking their names from the county, book is WELL ILLUSTRATED with EIGHT HUNDRED AND TWENTY THREE FIGURES drawn on TWENTY TWO PLATES illustrating the wealth of lower Palaeozoic fossils present in the county, including Trilobites, Crinoids, Fish, Corals, brachiopods, Cystoids, Gastropods, etc, 91 pages of text including explanatory text for the plates, The book is ex Reading University Library, bound in a good solid light brown cloth binding titled in black to the spine with Reading University Coat of Arms to upper cover, internally there are two library labels to front endpapers and visible remains of a third label that has been removed from the front pastedown, the only other library stamp in the book is a small withdrawn stamp to reverse of the title page some occasional mild handling marks else contents in good clean condition A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE VERY SCARCE FIRST EDITION OF THIS CLASSIC VICTORIAN HAND-BOOK TO SHROPSHIRE’S FOSSILS
