WILLIAM WALLIS MASON HIS BOOK April 15th 1752 A Superb 18th Century Manuscript Arithmetic Book for William Wallis Mason 1752. More than Pp 160 completed pages of manuscript entries, with very few blank pages at the end of sections. Approx. 16.5cm x 21.0 cm, some light discolouration and grime, though overall in excellent order. Bound in a vellum notebook, the front cover written with the owner's name "William Wallis Mason His Book April 15th 1752, the rear cover with a flaw in the vellum from the original binding. Very Good condition throughout with work shown in a tidy hand, the pages clean and with only a few minor edge tears to a very few pages. The book has been sectioned into various subjects for example "Bills of Parcels","Bills of Book Debts etc", "Division","Reduction", "Proportion or the Golden Rule or Single Rule of Three Direct" with example workings for presumably fictitious clients "Mr Thomas Shotmeasure" ,"Rev'd Euclid Peachy" ,"Paul Purseproud Upholder" and the like. Further business calculations have been studied, with workings for Tare weight of Tobacco from Virginia, Fellowship and Company trading, Interest etc. This is an unusually good Arithmetic copy book, being in clean and original condition. The will of William Wallis Mason, a Birmingham Merchant is held by the National Archive at Kew : Reference:PROB 11/1427/253 Date:22 June 1805 ......which seems to suggest that his mathematics and business studies shown in this notebook stood him in good stead.......
